Learnit Live 2021

By Opportunity International EduFinance

On the 12th March 2021 Renée McAlpin, Global EduQuality Manager presented as part of Radical Rethinks at Learnit Live Conference 2021.

SUMMARY: Low- and middle-income countries include the top 15 countries in the world that spend the most on education as a proportion of their budget. And yet despite best efforts, even prior to the pandemic 1 in 5 children around the world were not in school. Overstretched state school systems have created conditions for affordable non-state schools to expand and fill the supply gap in education. With the right support, this can be a viable solution.

To realise the full potential of affordable non-state schools, we must recognize their role in the larger educational ecosystem. This requires a multi-stakeholder systems approach that prioritises three key levers for change: Financing, Capacity Development, and Regulations and Accountability. Global EduQuality Manager, Renée McAlpin, shared the role that Opportunity EduFinance and its partners are currently engaging in globally, and opportunities for additional actors to join efforts for meaningful educational systems change.
