Mighty Kings Educational Complex Expands Access to Quality Education

What began as a small gathering of children under the guidance of one determined individual has grown into a school that is changing lives and shaping futures.

Mighty Kings Educational Complex started as an act of compassion shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic. Rev. Richard Mensah could not bear to see children in his community sitting idle, deprived of learning opportunities due to the closure of schools. Even without formal structures or resources, he began offering free lessons to a small group of children, driven purely by a desire to make a difference.

Rev. Mensah mobilized children from his community and introduced them to Jolly Phonics, a child‑centered literacy approach that quickly captured their interest. As the children’s reading skills improved, so did their confidence. Parents soon noticed the transformation and were deeply impressed by their children's progress. Encouraged by these results, they urged Rev. Mensah to continue and expand the initiative.

That request marked a turning point. “We cannot come here and only teach phonics. Let’s enroll them properly,” he thought.

With that decision, what had started informally began to take shape as a school. Mighty Kings Educational Complex officially opened with 17 children. Within a year, enrolment grew to about 50 learners, and the numbers continued to rise steadily. Before long, the original structure could no longer accommodate the growing student population.

As demand increased, so did the challenges. Without access to financing, the school struggled to keep pace with the community's educational needs. The desire for quality education was clear, but resources were limited.

In 2025, Rev. Mensah attended Opportunity International Edufinance’s School Leadership Academy Training, which Edify, an organization with which he was previously working, introduced to him. The training not only strengthened his leadership capacity but also opened the door to a school‑improvement loan designed specifically to support private schools.

Through the School Leadership Academy, Rev. Mensah gained vital skills in financial management, administration, and record‑keeping tools the school urgently needed to manage growth responsibly and sustainably.

Although Mighty Kings Educational Complex already owned a plot of land, construction had stalled due to a lack of capital. With a loan facility secured through Amenfiman Rural Bank, backed by Opportunity International, the construction of a new classroom facility is now underway.

For Rev. Mensah, this progress is a powerful sign of hope. “Sometimes you just need someone to give you that spring so you can step, then leap to the next level,” he said, reflecting on the journey of Mighty Kings from its humble beginnings.

With continued investment and strengthened school administration through the School Leadership Academy, Mighty Kings Educational Complex is poised to serve even more children in the community. The school is creating access to safe classrooms and a conducive learning environment, offering young learners the opportunity to realize their full potential as the leaders of tomorrow.
