Centro Educativo Mi Pequeño Mundo, Growing with Purpose
In the heart of the Adelita de Char neighborhood in Columbia, Centro Educativo Mi Pequeño Mundo stands as a testament to what is possible when a clear vision is paired with unwavering dedication.
For Faidy, principal and founder of the school, Mi Pequeño Mundo began as a modest tutoring center with limited resources but limitless commitment. Over time, it grew into a vibrant learning community where children are encouraged to dream, learn, and thrive. Through Opportunity International's EduQuality Program, Faidy gained the guidance, tools, and confidence needed to transform her aspirations into lasting impact.
With the program's support, she strengthened her leadership skills, formalized essential institutional processes, and brought the school's identity to life by creating a brand that inspires trust, fosters a sense of belonging, and nurtures a genuine love of learning.
"Together, we built the pillars of our institution. Today, children love their school. They identify with our mission, and the values that once existed only on paper are now lived out every day," Faidy shared.
The transformation has been far-reaching. From developing a clear student profile to improving infrastructure, the school has grown intentionally and responsibly. Enrollment increased from 56 learners in 2024 to 78 learners, reflecting both community trust and the school's commitment to quality education.
Through community-centered initiatives such as Family Day celebrations and bingo fundraisers, the school generated additional resources to expand its facilities. These efforts enabled the acquisition of additional space, the renovation of restrooms to improve comfort and accessibility, and facility upgrades designed to better serve every child.
As the school has grown, so has Faidy as a leader. "Today, I lead with greater confidence, resilience, and clarity of purpose. I understand my role as a guide, protector, and servant to my community," she said.
The impact extends beyond infrastructure and enrollment. Through the Teacher Mentorship and Professional Development (TMPD) Program, teachers now feel supported and empowered by their leadership team. A culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and shared accountability is taking root throughout the school.
Opportunity International EduFinance's EduQuality Program has played a pivotal role in this journey by providing practical tools, strategic direction, and ongoing encouragement. The program has strengthened primary education, helped formalize key processes, and fostered a culture of excellence across the institution.
"Centro Educativo Mi Pequeño Mundo has taught me never to give up because dreams really can come true," said Sofía, a fourth-grade class representative.
Emma, the third-grade student council president, added, "I dream that my school's playground will become bigger and bigger."
Learners like Emma and Sofía dream boldly of becoming teachers, singers, and actresses. They speak with confidence and conviction because they see every day that growth is possible and that their dreams matter.
What began with the trust and encouragement of neighbors has evolved into a cornerstone of the community. Parents, grandparents, and alumni actively participate in school life. The institution is known for its commitment to inclusive education, serves as a local leader in environmental and recycling initiatives, and remains a place where both doors and hearts are open to everyone.
The growth of Mi Pequeño Mundo is more than expanding facilities or increasing enrollment. It is the story of a community being built and strengthened through purpose, belonging, and hope.
