Impact Story: Amazing Knowledge School, Rwanda

In September 2023, School Leader and Co-Founder, Mukabasabe Francine and her colleague founded Amazing Knowledge School in Rwanda, with the shared ambition of providing accessible, high-quality education for their local community. They acquired a plot of land and started refurbishments to make it suitable for learners.

They began with 111 students and 5 teachers, some of whom lacked teaching qualifications; however, 18 months later, enrolment had risen to 240 learners, and teaching staff had expanded to 9 fully qualified teachers. This growth was the result of careful planning and a commitment to continuous improvement. Francine and her team focused not only on expanding capacity but also on creating a safe and conducive learning environment. As a result, classrooms were painted, grounds were paved, and attention was given to making the school space a clean environment for students to learn and grow in.

Parental involvement has also been a core element of the school’s growth. Amazing Knowledge School provides parents with a direct window into their child’s learning. One example of this is through their weekly student debates, which parents are encouraged to attend. The benefits of this initiative are multifaceted; it allows students to build their confidence and public speaking skills, it promotes transparency around learning for parents and turns students into ambassadors for the school.

The development of Amazing Knowledge School has been influenced by the EduQuality program provided by Opportunity EduFinance. This allowed educators to access resources to improve their confidence and teaching abilities. After applying the principles they were taught, Francine shared that the improvements made to their day-to-day operations including a more structured recruitment of qualified teachers, improved communications with parents and a greater focus on the public image of the school.

The progress made by Amazing Knowledge School is a reflection of strong leadership and meaningful collaboration. With support from the EduQuality Program, the school has become increasingly organised, improved learning conditions and built greater trust among parents and members of the local community. What began as a small initiative has become a well-established institution with growing positive impacts on the students it serves. As it continues to expand, the school remains focused on delivering accessible, high-standard education that caters to the needs of its students and the ambitions of its founders.
