Lighting the Path to Quality Education Through Opportunity EduFinance’s Intro Seminar

Quality education remains a persistent challenge for many low-fee private schools in Ghana. To address this gap, Opportunity International EduFinance’s EduQuality program is providing schools with practical and actionable tools to improve learning outcomes for students who need it most. The first step for this program is hosting introductory seminars for school leaders who have expressed interest and signed up to participate in the three-year program.

These seminars are more than just another training, but a catalyst for change in teaching quality.  This is why, when the program extended the invitation to school leaders like Ebenezer Gafa, Emmanuel Kofi Azagio, Angia Betty, and Gifty Edward Sinyako to participate and join the EduQuality program, they did not hesitate. Their shared determination to improve the quality of teaching and learning in their schools led them to attend the intro seminar hosted in Ghana’s Volta region.

“I saw this as an opportunity to restructure and improve our school,” said Ebenezer Gafa, Administrator of Kings and Queens Preparatory School. “This program will open bigger doors for schools like ours.” He added.

The two-day Intro Seminar introduced the participants to foundational principles of school improvement — from governance and financial management to fostering safe learning environments and strengthening teaching practices.

For Mr. Emmanuel Kofi Azagio, founder of Trinity International Academy, the seminar was both a refresher and a source of new ideas. “It reignited my passion for education. I’m eager to use these insights to upgrade our teaching quality and motivate our teachers,” he reflected.

Angia Betty, Assistant Headmistress at Jaspack Academy, echoed this sentiment. “It’s not just about making money, it is about the children” she said. “ We want to help build into future leaders” she added during one of the sessions. The seminar is providing school leaders with new ways to develop students and better manage their schools.

For Gifty Edward Sinyako, proprietress of Angel Hills Preparatory School, the seminar validated her mission and expanded her vision of no child left behind. “I now know I’m on the right path,” she shared. “I’ve learned so much and built new networks that will help our schools grow.”

Each of these school leaders walked away from the seminar with more than just notes, they left with a plan. They are committed to applying the lessons in school governance, teacher support, and quality improvement frameworks to create safer, more effective, and more inclusive schools for their students. Their stories reflect a growing movement across Ghana’s low-fee private schools: leaders eager for knowledge, united by purpose, and empowered to drive change in their communities.

The EduQuality program is more than a series of trainings. It’s a transformative partnership model that empowers schools from within. Through peer collaboration, leadership development, and structured planning, Opportunity EduFinance is helping schools chart their own course toward sustainable, quality education.
