Impact Story: Visions Academy, Ghana
In 2003, the founders of Visions Academy established the school in Salosi, Somanya. They began with teaching five children, which included the proprietor's daughter. Today, Visions Academy stands as a reputable institution, offering pre-primary, primary, and lower-secondary classes.
To lay the foundation of the school and construct the initial classrooms, the proprietors utilized their personal savings. Subsequently, they secured a loan of GHS 30,000 (USD 2635) from Opportunity International Savings and Loans (OISL). These funds were dedicated to enhancing the school's infrastructure.
OISL Bank introduced Mr. Ebenezer Appiah, the school's proprietor, to the EduQuality program. This initiative, part of Opportunity International's commitment to enhancing access to quality education, promotes collaboration among schools through the formation of 'clusters'. Within these clusters, school leaders convene in meetings to exchange insights and knowledge. Visions Academy became an active member of the Somanya Cluster. Mr. Ebenezer shared,
My experience with my fellow cluster members has been blissful. They have been collaborative and quite helpful in providing information and tips regarding things we struggle with in our school. We share our strengths where others are weak and in so doing, help each other.” - Mr. Ebenezer Appiah
Under the EduQuality program, the School Leadership Professional Development (SLPD) training aims to refine management techniques and provide leadership guidance to school administrators. Mr. Ebenezer eagerly participated in this training, gaining valuable insights into Marketing and Branding. As a result, Visions Academy implemented branding on uniforms, exercise books, and stationery, in addition to creating appealing signboards. These efforts significantly expanded the school's visibility, attracting more students. Simultaneously, the educators at Visions Academy underwent Teacher Mentor Professional Development (TMPD) training, enhancing their teaching methodologies and pedagogical skills. Teacher-mentors at Vision Academy shared what they learned with their colleagues, consequently improving learner participation within the classroom.
Currently, the school's primary focus lies in crafting a comprehensive development plan aimed at enhancing school management and infrastructure. This effort aims to create a safe, clean, and welcoming place for all students to learn.
