George OkidiEducation Specialist, Uganda
Okidi George had served as a teacher of English in Ugandan secondary schools for fifteen years when he joined Opportunity International EduFinance team as an Education Specialist. He taught English in Sir Samuel Baker School, Awere Secondary School and St. Joseph’s College Layibi. During his teaching in secondary schools, he served as Head of English and Literature Department, and he represented teachers on the Board of Governors of St. Joseph’s College Layibi. He was recruited as a part time Assistant Lecturer in Kyambogo University in January 2018.
In December 2018, George was contracted by International Criminal Court to participate in the review of English Acoli terminologies in The Hague, Netherlands where he constructively participated in the expansion of the Acoli English terminology base to be used in the court. From 2014 to 2016, George was a columnist in Rupiny Newspaper (Vision Group), running a series that mirrors education challenges faced by a needy girl child in a rural Acoli village. George had also been a freelance Acoli English translator for Makerere University for five years.
George holds Diploma in Education Secondary of Kyambogo University, Bachelor of Education and Master of Arts in Linguistics of Makerere University, and he is a PhD candidate at Makerere University. His research project is on the tone patterns in the varieties of Acoli spoken in Uganda and South Sudan.
