This week we welcome Andrew McCusker as Opportunity International’s new Head of Education Finance. Andrew brings with him the unique experience of working in both the finance and education sectors with experience of working in emerging markets. Andrew will take over from Nathan Byrd, who was promoted to Head of Global Programs earlier this year. Andrew will be responsible for overseeing all the EduFinance functions, programmes and strategic partnerships - across multinational field operations in developing countries.
Prior to joining Opportunity International, Andrew was a Global Financial Planning Analyst with Bridge International Academies based in both Nairobi and London working with 520 low cost schools in 5 countries. At Bridge Andrew set up and managed a Corporate Finance and Financial planning team and built their financial model and budgeting system. He managed a country-wide budget process of USD$45m p.a. spend, and achieved $50m fundraising from philanthropic investors and DFIs. He was also responsible for investor relationships, and conducting financial impact analysis of key business decisions for education providers.
Previously, Andrew served as Executive Director – Global Investment Research with Goldman Sachs in Melbourne, Australia. At Goldman Andrew formulated and communicated investment advice to global investors, managed research and publication of research reports and oversaw relationships with over 100 investors. He managed a team that spanned 3 locations including low cost markets. Andrew has also recently worked with a small Education Finance start up in London.
Andrew is a Chartered Financial Analyst (from the CFA Institute) and holds a Bachelor of Commence from the University of Melbourne. He currently resides in London.
