Richard CholeEducation Specialist, Uganda
Chole Richard serves as an Education Specialist with Opportunity International having joined the organisation in January 2019.
He is an educator with over twenty years of teaching experience in secondary education – six years at Nyenga Senior Secondary School (literature, english, history, political education) and sixteen years at PMM Girls’ School (Literature and English), He holds a Bachelor of Education Degree, (Languages and Literature) Makerere University, Kampala and Diploma in Secondary Education (History and Languages) from the then Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo (ITEK).
As a secondary school teacher, he has engaged his students in several experiential, interdisciplinary learning activities and integration of technology as attempts at best practices beyond his principle teaching subjects.
His exploits in education have overtime gone beyond classroom and school confines, developing into passionate drive of transforming education to connect learners, educators and schools with real issues affecting communities.
He has had opportunities to share his professional learning experiences and advocate for meaningful education and best practices at several conferences and other forums, both locally and internationally.
He has had engagements with several personalities and organizations, both locally and globally as an educator, trainer, trainee, facilitator and initiator of learning activities. He is a master teacher of International Education and Resource Network (iEARN) where he spearheads a collaborative learning project for teenagers, Envision My Ideal World. He has for three consecutive years been recognized as a Microsoft Expert Educator and accomplishing an award winning project in one of them. For ten years from 2008, he worked as an educator of an international corporate responsibility, multimedia project based learning program for teenagers, Adobe Youth Voices sponsored by Adobe Systems in collaboration with several partner organizations. He is also a pioneer member of an international girl empowerment program, Girls’ Voices for Change, a signature program of GreaterGood USA. He has locally coordinated programs of Ventures for Good, empowering primary school teachers and students with low cost technology and project based learning. He has also been at the forefront in engaging and mentoring learners of ICT Clubs in twenty secondary schools in Uganda with an aim of practically engendering creativity and innovation in learning, a program mandated by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and implemented by Kisubi Associated Writers’ Agency (KAWA).
He has worked with several other organizations like SchoolNet Uganda, Gift of a Future - UK, I-Network Uganda, Small Solutions; Big Ideas – USA, Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) – Uganda, St. Francis Health Care Services - Njeru, Gayaza High School and so forth.
He has also developed a keen interest in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program. He has further teamed up with several like-minded individuals across the globe to design a curriculum that stimulates global citizenship among youth all over the world.
Chole has therefore overtime build for himself synergies of resourceful persons and institutions across the world. He is organically growing and building capacity to shape himself into an educator of global stature as a matter of principle.
